Safety

Read all warnings, cautions, and instructions before operating the machine. Each company has different processes, and operators should follow Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) standards for their facility.

  • Ensure proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn at all times.
  • Do not operate without safety guards in place.
  • Be aware of pinch points in the Gate, Toolhead, and Trolley.
  • Never exceed the machine’s weight or material capacity.

Maintenance

To ensure peak performance, follow the Dragon A400 maintenance schedule:

  • Daily: Clean the Gate, Rail, and Part Catcher.
  • Weekly: Check for grease buildup and tighten connections.
  • Monthly: Inspect fasteners and cooling system.
  • Annually: Check backlash and level the machine.

Setup Inspection

Before powering on the machine, perform an initial inspection:

  • Ensure the Rail is level and straight.
  • Adjust the Trolley bearings for smooth operation.
  • Check Drive Belt alignment and tension.
  • Verify all power and control connections.

Machine Walkthrough

Familiarize yourself with the major components:

  • Gate: Supports and moves material.
  • Material Support Lift: Prevents material sag.
  • Toolhead: Houses the Marker, Engraver, and Torch.
  • Electrical Components: Includes E-Stops, sensors, and homing switches.

Torch Mount

Before cutting, the Torch must be calibrated:

  • Open the Torch Calibration Tool in Dragon CAM.
  • Load material and adjust the Torch height.
  • Ensure the Torch is properly mounted for all operations.

Dragon CAM

Dragon CAM software is used to create and nest parts:

  • Define material types in the Tube and Pipe Library.
  • Design new parts and set cut parameters.
  • Arrange multiple parts using the Nest Part feature.
  • Verify toolpath before running the cutting process.

Import Project Process

To run a full project with multiple parts:

  • Import design files into Dragon CAM.
  • Adjust nesting to optimize material usage.
  • Save and load the Nesting Project.

Side Offsets Calibration

To ensure square and rectangular tubing cuts accurately:

  • Open the Side Offsets Calibration in Dragon CAM.
  • Load material and measure Torch distance from each side.
  • Run test cuts and verify offset accuracy.

Angle & Channel Setup

When processing angle or channel material:

  • Use proper spacers to ensure secure chucking.
  • Adjust lead-in/out settings for precise cutting.
  • Run test cuts and measure accuracy.

Calibrating the Dragon A400

The machine must be calibrated periodically to maintain accuracy:

  • Use the Calibration Wizard in Dragon CAM.
  • Verify homing switch and motor movement.
  • Calibrate tool positions including the Torch, Marker, and Engraver.
