Consumables
The Dragon A400 uses shielded consumables for optimal performance. Bend-Tech recommends using these consumables whenever possible.
Consumables Parts
- Nozzle: Focuses the arc. Check for roundness and slag buildup.
- Electrode: Inspect for pit depth to determine wear.
- Swirl Ring: Ensure no cracks or clogged holes.
- Retaining Cap: Should be free of slag and intact.
- Shield Cap: Check for clean holes and proper gas flow.
Signs That Consumables Need Replacing
- Bad Electrode: Green arc discoloration, excessive dross, misfiring.
- Bad Nozzle: Wide kerf, slow cutting speed, oblong holes.
Maximizing Consumable Life
- Use fine-cut consumables for thin materials (3/16 in. or smaller).
- Ensure cutting speed matches material thickness.
- Maintain proper gas supply (90-135 psi recommended).
- Keep the torch clean and properly mounted.
- Use correct lead-in/lead-out settings to avoid nozzle damage.

Troubleshooting
Common plasma cutting issues and solutions.
Cut Quality Issues
- Jagged Cuts: Adjust material feed rate, ensure proper amperage.
- Oval Holes: Check cutting speed and material clamping.
- Torch Not Firing: Verify power supply, air pressure, and consumables.
- Torch Colliding with Material: Ensure correct material selection in software.
Plasma System Gas Supply
Maintaining proper gas or air supply ensures consistent performance.
- Recommended Settings: 6 cfm at 90 psi (Powermax45), 12 cfm at 180 psi (larger models).
- Minimize air hose length and junctions to prevent pressure loss.
- Use a filter, dryer, and oil separator for clean air supply.
- Check for leaks or restrictions in the system.
