Overview
For repeat shells and housings troubled by recurring radius corrections, evaluate SweBend’s announced SURE system against the released part’s tolerances—not just geometry measured in the rolls. SURE combines edge evaluation with radius measurement for SEVEN X; automatic radius adjustment already exists through IRMA in the SEVEN control family.
- Compare in-process readings with the required finished radius or diameter tolerance across representative material. Account for springback, bending load and the support conditions that affect shape.
- Confirm what portion of the edge is measured and how it changes forming corrections. Edge evaluation is not full-surface inspection, coating inspection or seam-alignment verification.
- Size the plate roll by material grade, thickness, working width and smallest finished diameter. Confirm SURE availability, measurement coverage, calibration requirements and retrofit compatibility for the specific machine; geometry feedback cannot replace adequate forming or pre-bending capacity.
- The PB4-8-6 demonstration is scheduled for EuroBLECH, October 20–23, 2026, and remained forthcoming as of October 10, 2026. The preview provides no SURE measurement tolerance, cycle-time improvement or scrap-reduction figures.
SweBend’s announced SURE measuring system supplies plate-edge and radius feedback during rolling so SEVEN X can adjust forming from measured workpiece geometry. For repeat shells and housings, that capability is worth evaluating when recurring radius corrections interrupt otherwise repeatable production.
The PB4-8-6 four-roll plate bender package is scheduled for demonstration at EuroBLECH, October 20–23, 2026, following its September 17, 2026 announcement. The demonstration remains forthcoming as of October 10, 2026.
Geometry feedback, not just repeated roll positions
SURE stands for Surface Uniformity and Radius Evaluation. The system checks the workpiece while it remains in the rolls. Programmed positions command machine movement; geometry feedback gives the control information about the shape being formed.
IRMA already provides automatic radius adjustment in the SEVEN control family and stores corrections for subsequent batches. SURE combines edge evaluation with radius measurement; this preview is not the introduction of radius correction to SEVEN.
Where four-roll bending fits
The PB4’s central top and bottom pinch rolls work with two lateral bending rolls to curve broad sheet or plate. Double-pinch geometry permits pre-bending both ends, making it useful for cylinders whose remaining end flats matter. Hydraulic drive powers the top and lower rolls.
Repeated cylindrical OEM housings, heater shells and tank shells are practical jobs on which to investigate geometry feedback, provided their material and dimensions fit the selected machine. Repeated curved sheet-metal components also merit evaluation when radius consistency is the recurring problem.
The PB4 family with CNC is designed for repetitive production, including complex shapes and radius transitions. That family capability does not establish that the announced SURE package can measure every possible shape. Optional top and side supports and support rolls beneath the lower roll add configuration choices that should be considered separately from sensing.
Finished radius remains the buying criterion
Springback changes curvature when forming load is removed, so an in-roll reading does not automatically establish the released component’s radius. Geometry-feedback research on a different symmetrical four-roller arrangement accounts for springback; it supports the control principle, not SURE accuracy.
A useful application trial compares in-process readings with the released part’s required radius or diameter tolerance across representative material. Establish where the reading is taken and whether the workpiece is under bending load. If support changes the observed shape, compare geometry under the support conditions that matter to the drawing.
Edge evaluation needs an equally precise explanation. Ask what portion of the edge is measured and how that information changes the forming correction. Do not mistake it for full-surface inspection, coating inspection or seam-alignment verification.
The preview provides no SURE measurement tolerance, cycle-time improvement or scrap-reduction figures. Judge those benefits on representative work rather than treating them as demonstrated production savings.
Capacity and configuration still determine fit
The PB4-8-6’s 2,000 mm roll length and 203 mm top-roll diameter describe machine size, not a universal thickness capacity. Its ratings separate pre-bending from circular rolling at different diameter conditions.
Material grade, thickness, working width and smallest finished diameter must govern sizing. Geometry feedback cannot substitute for adequate forming or pre-bending capacity. An inconsistent radius, an excessive end flat and a support problem can require different equipment responses.
SEVEN controls come in multiple versions with different hardware, software features and controlled axes. The proposed package needs machine-specific confirmation of SURE availability, measurement coverage and calibration requirements. General SEVEN retrofit capability does not establish universal SURE retrofit compatibility.
Discuss your rolled-part application
I’m Patrick O’Neill, Mac-Tech’s National Product Manager / Regional Sales Executive, serving the U.S. national market. I can help you compare plate-roll capacity, forming controls and support requirements with the equipment options Mac-Tech offers. Call me with your rolled-part drawing, material grade, thickness, width, smallest finished diameter, tolerances and examples of recurring corrections so we can separate a radius-control problem from mechanical limits and assess whether geometry feedback warrants a closer application review.
