A portable multi-profile machine remains better suited to long panels, remote projects, replacement work, and jobsite production where mobility can matter more than maximum factory throughput.

What the 2026 show changed for buyers

The Construction Rollforming Show took place September 16–17, 2026, as a focused event for companies forming light-gauge construction products such as roofing panels, wall panels, flashings, gutters, and related profiles.

MetalForming used the event to promote VIETSTEEL roll-forming equipment as available in North America. That makes supplier and configuration availability a current buying consideration, but it does not prove that VIETSTEEL offers the same tooling, controls, materials capability, commissioning process, spare-parts position, or service coverage as an established alternative.

VIETSTEEL’s product range includes roofing roll-forming machines, mobile panel machines, purlin equipment, and other forming systems. The available evidence does not establish a specific U.S. service footprint, installed base, price, lead time, or customer result. Those points belong in a quotation and application review rather than in a show-based conclusion.

What the fixed STEFA line brings to the comparison

The cataloged STEFA ROLL FORMER LINE is a four-profile roofing line with a listed forming speed of 20 m/min. It is specified for pre-painted galvanized steel from 0.3 mm to 0.5 mm and includes a decoiler, adjustable entry guide, hydraulic shear with profiled blades, a 6 m discharge table with pneumatic unloading, guarding, light curtains, and touchscreen controls. The catalog lists an estimated 30 m x 4 m line size, 25 kW estimated power, and three-phase 480 VAC service.

Those details make the machine a useful fixed-line reference for recurring plant production. Coil storage, lifting, entry alignment, forming, cutoff, discharge, first-piece inspection, stacking, packaging, and truck loading can be planned around a stable factory route. The line documents the forming, cutting, discharge, control, and safety equipment; inspection, packaging, labeling, and finished-panel loading still require downstream planning.

The related Stefa PFL family shows the broader fixed-line architecture: coil uncoiling, profiling, cutting, and unloading can be combined, with family-level options such as flying shear and longer unloading tables. That context helps frame the process, but the selected Mac-Tech line’s catalog remains the authority for its exact configuration.

Where fixed roofing production fits best

A fixed line earns its footprint when the operation produces recurring roofing profiles for multiple orders, crews, contractors, or projects. A controlled facility makes it easier to stage coils, repeat entry settings, protect the process from weather, and move formed panels into organized inspection and packaging work.

The strongest fit is a roofing producer with predictable annual footage, a relatively stable profile mix, and enough room for the machine, coil handling, discharge length, finished-panel movement, and packaging area. A fixed line can also fit an operation replacing outsourced panel production and seeking more control over forming, cutoff, quality checks, and shipment scheduling.

The operating consequence is that the line must be evaluated as a material-flow system rather than as a forming section alone. If coil loading, discharge, packaging, or truck loading cannot keep pace, the bottleneck moves downstream of the roll former.

Where a portable multi-profile machine fits better

Portable roll forming moves production closer to the roof project. That can help when finished panels are unusually long, transportation is difficult, a project is remote, or a damaged or replacement panel must be produced without waiting for another shipment. Compare the production route, not just the machine category

Start with annual footage by profile and the real frequency of changes. A four-profile fixed line may fit recurring roofing work, while a 16-profile portable machine may earn its value through varied project demand. Compare usable changeover time, including tooling, guides, setup verification, first-piece inspection, and any changes around cutoff and discharge.

Panel length and order geography

Long panels and remote projects can favor jobsite forming because the operation avoids shipping finished lengths that are difficult to load, protect, and deliver. Projects close to a capable plant may favor centralized production and shipment. Typical and maximum panel lengths, delivery distances, loading limits, replacement-panel requirements, and finished-panel transport should drive this part of the decision.

Throughput and downstream handling

Do not compare speed numbers without confirming the same measurement basis, material, profile, and operating conditions. The STEFA catalog lists 20 m/min, while the SSQ3 lists up to 75 ft/min. Finished-order throughput also depends on loading, setup, cutoff, inspection, runout support, stacking, packaging, and truck loading.

Buyers should determine whether the route needs profile-specific shearing, synchronized cutoff, stacking, punching, notching, protective film, labeling, or other downstream operations. The useful comparison is the pace of finished orders, not the highest forming-section number.

Facility and support requirements

A fixed line requires adequate floor space, coil storage, lifting equipment, electrical service, discharge space, packaging space, and clear paths for finished panels. A portable machine requires suitable transport, coil support, runout space, power, setup conditions, and a plan for field adjustments and weather protection.

Any new supplier path should be evaluated through commissioning responsibility, operator training, tooling support, spare-parts availability, controls support, warranty terms, and response time. Trade-show visibility establishes an option worth investigating; it does not establish equivalent service or application performance.

Use representative roofing work to make the decision

A useful comparison should use representative profile drawings, finished widths, annual footage by profile, material type and gauge, coil width and weight, typical and maximum panel lengths, cutoff tolerances, surface-marking limits, current labor and shipping costs, available floor and packaging space, required automation, and expected service response.

The meaningful question after the 2026 show is not whether one machine category has replaced the other. It is whether the operation’s main constraint is plant capacity, jobsite transportation, profile changeover, coil handling, or finished-panel movement. The fixed STEFA ROLL FORMER LINE is a strong reference for recurring four-profile roofing production with controlled coil entry, forming, hydraulic cutoff, and supported discharge. A portable multi-profile machine remains the better route when mobility, long panels, remote work, or field replacement production control the economics.
