Overview
The SSM may fit jobs that need one of its announced siding profiles and have a practical reason to form panels on-site; its pre-production specifications do not guarantee jobsite savings or output.
- Six named styles are grouped into four profile options. Compare profile drawings, required coverage, and the delivered setup; published coil width is 9–16 inches.
- Factory-standard settings are listed for 26-gauge steel and steel ZAM. 28- and 29-gauge steel and .032- and .027-inch aluminum are described as runnable with adjustments. The 45-feet-per-minute rating is for 26-gauge steel, not guaranteed daily production.
- Weigh coil and equipment logistics, labor, site access, and panel handling against transporting formed panels or producing in-plant; portability alone does not prove lower cost or higher output.
- The $120,000–$150,000 retail range and projected order and delivery timing are preliminary. Confirm configuration, quote, delivery commitment, and support terms before planning around them.
The New Tech Machinery SSM is a pre-production portable rollformer for making metal siding panels from coil at the jobsite. It is worth evaluating when the required siding profiles match its announced options and forming near installation addresses a real transport or handling constraint.
Introduced at METALCON 2026, held October 7–9, the SSM is dedicated to metal siding rather than general roofing-panel production. Its announced features and specifications help define potential fit; they do not establish savings, output, or suitability for every job.
Four profile options cover six named styles
The SSM groups six named styles into four profile options: Board & Batten and Reverse Board & Batten; Dutch Lap and Double Dutch Lap; Double Horizontal; and Single Horizontal. Buyers should compare the actual profile drawings and required panel coverage with the proposed configuration rather than assume each named style represents a separate tooling setup.
The announced feature set includes a woodgrain embosser, quick-change cartridges, center-forming, and a profile-specific electric shear. These features relate to panel appearance, adjustment, and cutting; confirm the supplied configuration and changeover requirements against the work. The machine’s published coil-width range is 9–16 inches, with final panel coverage dependent on profile and setup.
Match the published material range to the coil
The announced specifications list factory-standard settings for 26-gauge steel and steel ZAM, with 28- and 29-gauge steel and .032- and .027-inch aluminum also described as runnable with adjustments. The stated production rating is 45 feet per minute with 26-gauge steel. That is a published rating, not guaranteed daily footage: material, profile, setup, and field conditions can affect actual speed.
Before planning production, confirm that the intended material, gauge, coating, coil width and weight, and profile are supported in the delivered configuration. A site run also has to account for coil unloading, machine positioning, setup, operator time, and space to discharge and handle panels. Those demands affect usable production time beyond the rated line speed.
Jobsite production depends on the work and site
Jobsite rollforming can be useful when transporting finished panels is difficult or impractical. It shifts part of the production operation to the site, so coil and equipment logistics, labor, site access, weather exposure, and panel handling become part of the decision. Compare those demands with the actual alternative for the order rather than treating portability as proof of lower cost or higher output.
In-plant production may remain a better fit when volume, controlled conditions, coil access, or production pace outweigh the difficulty of transporting formed panels. The relevant comparison is specific to the profile, panel lengths, job volume, available crew, and site constraints.
Order and delivery timing remains a projection
The SSM was introduced as a pre-production machine. The announcement projects orders around February 2027, also described as mid-Q1, and limited initial deliveries in spring—around March or April—with production starting at roughly one machine per week. It also gives an expected retail range of $120,000–$150,000 depending on features and configuration. Treat the price and launch schedule as preliminary projections; confirm the current configuration, quote, order window, delivery commitment, and support terms before building a production plan around them.
