Overview
The ERBEND MFE is worth considering if operator-assisted CNC folding meets your demand; gantry handling deserves a closer look when loading and removal limit recurring work. Reusable bend programs are not the same as pallet-to-stack automation.
- Schröder’s announced gantry package adds automatic loading and unloading to its separate MAK 4 Evolution UD—not verified MFE options. Confirm U.S. supply and installation scope, compare actual configurations rather than assuming equal capacities, and evaluate safeguarding for the complete installation.
- Keep MFE ratings paired: the 3240 offers a 3,200-mm folding length and 4-mm steel rating; the 4230 offers 4,200 mm and a 3-mm steel rating. Material grade, tooling and flange geometry require review; deep returns need configuration-specific usable clearance.
- Time loading, reorientation, removal and stacking separately from folding. Evaluate representative blanks and completed samples for gripping, stack consistency and surface protection—not just the bend program.
- I’m Jon Williams. When you call to discuss your application, bring flat patterns, finished-part drawings, material grades and thicknesses, representative samples, batch mix and current loading, reorientation and unloading times.
The ERBEND MFE METAL FOLDING MACHINE is a practical candidate when supported CNC folding can meet output requirements with operator handling; automatic pallet handling merits evaluation when loading and removal constrain recurring work.
A new gantry package for Schröder’s separate MAK 4 Evolution UD, announced on August 18, 2026, adds automatic loading and unloading around the folding operation. Its EuroBLECH presentation is planned for October 20–23, 2026, and remains forthcoming as of October 4, 2026. The buying distinction is programmed forming versus automation extending from incoming pallets to finished-part stacking.
What the Schröder gantry changes
The announced package retrieves blanks from pallets, measures them optically and unloads formed components automatically. Software provides selectable palletizing arrangements, and programming runs through the machine control without a separate industrial robot. Manual operation remains available.
The MAK 4 Evolution UD’s up-and-down folding beam forms bends in both directions, reducing the need to turn a sheet over for reverse bends. Its Advanced Handling System, or AHS, uses a rotating suction-plate gauge for workpiece positioning. The gantry adds incoming and outgoing handling to that arrangement. These are capabilities of the separate Schröder package, not verified MFE options.
Where the ERBEND MFE fits
The ERBEND MFE METAL FOLDING MACHINE combines CNC control with sheet support and servo backgauging. Its documented standard equipment includes ERFOLD BASIC, a 1,000-mm backgauge with a rectangular support table and front light barriers. Swivel folding clamps the sheet along the bend line and moves a folding beam to form the projecting flange.
ERFOLD BASIC programs define backgauge positions and folding angles, and saved jobs can be reused. The gauge establishes the positioning reference; in this operator-assisted arrangement, operators still present, reorient and remove the sheet. Program reuse and automatic sheet handling are different functions.
Flanged panels, covers and profiles—including suitable HVAC and architectural-sheet-metal components—are application candidates when the material and geometry fit. MFE options include longer backgauges, alternative support-table shapes, 2D/3D graphical control, servo folding-beam adjustment and segmented tooling. Those choices matter because a partly formed panel must clear the table and tooling during later bends, not merely fit as a flat blank. The quoted configuration should match that complete geometry.
The MFE 3240 pairs a 3,200-mm folding length with a 4-mm steel rating; the MFE 4230 pairs 4,200 mm with a 3-mm steel rating. Do not combine one variant’s working length with another’s thickness capacity. Material grade, tooling and flange geometry still require application review. For deep returns, use configuration-specific usable clearance rather than a generic opening or stroke figure.
When handling becomes the buying decision
Recurring enclosure-panel families are useful work to examine for automatic handling. Observed production times should distinguish folding from loading, reorientation, removal and stacking. If those handling activities constrain output, faster programmed bends alone will not resolve the constraint. If operator-assisted folding already meets demand across a variable order mix, dedicated pallet handling may not be the next useful investment.
Automatic handling also has to suit the component throughout its forming sequence. Cutouts can affect available gripping locations, while formed flanges can interfere with later gripping or finished-stack placement. Representative blanks and completed samples therefore matter when evaluating handling, stack consistency and surface protection—not just the bend program.
The comparison should account for recurring volume, changeover frequency, floor space and the cost of the proposed installation. Manual operation remains available in the announced Schröder package, but that does not establish a universal batch-size threshold or a guaranteed production gain. Confirm U.S. supply and installation scope before treating that package as a purchasing alternative, and compare the actual configurations rather than assuming equal capacities.
Robot-free handling does not remove the safeguarding question. OSHA 1910.212 requires protection against machine-area hazards and guarding where point-of-operation exposure can cause injury. Operator access must be evaluated for the complete installation; neither CNC programming nor the absence of an articulated robot establishes safe access during movement.
Discuss the application with Jon Williams
I’m Jon Williams, a Mac-Tech Sales Executive serving the Western and Central United States, with northern Wisconsin overflow. When you call, bring flat patterns and finished-part drawings, material grades and thicknesses, representative samples, batch mix, and current loading, reorientation and unloading times. Include your existing folder configuration and proposed pallet or stack arrangements where relevant. I can help assess sheet support, folding geometry, ergonomics, changeovers, stacking and line pacing, and determine where Mac-Tech’s available forming equipment fits your production needs.
