Overview
For recurring oversized sheet and plate work, match the cutting envelope to components that must remain in one piece, then select power for the actual cutting requirements. TRUMPF’s planned Cutlite acquisition would expand the portfolio, but closing remained conditional in the September 10, 2026 update; don’t assume common controls or consolidated service arrangements.

- Compare dedicated capacity with outsourcing for occasional oversized jobs. Evaluate power with representative material grades, thicknesses, contours, and edge requirements—not component length alone.
- Check loading against sheet dimensions and weights, floor space, and access for stock, cut blanks, and maintenance. Automation options do not establish compatibility with every large-format configuration.

TRUMPF’s planned Cutlite acquisition would broaden its large-format laser-cutting portfolio for fabricators needing larger one-piece sheet and plate blanks. The useful buying distinction is working envelope versus cutting power: a longer bed can accommodate larger components, while power selection must follow the actual material and cutting requirements.
The August 7, 2026 binding agreement provides for TRUMPF to acquire an initial 80% interest in a newly incorporated company receiving the Cutlite Penta business unit, with the El.En. Group retaining 20%. Closing remained conditional in the September 10, 2026 update, with completion expected within six months of signing.
What the planned acquisition would change
The partnership would expand custom large-format and very-high-power laser-cutting coverage. Cutlite would retain its own brand and manufacturing, sales, and service facilities. The wider transaction also concerns oversized tube machines, but the relevant capability here is flat-sheet and plate cutting.
The announcement concerns an established equipment portfolio, not a new PLUS EVO launch. Buyers should not assume common controls or consolidated service arrangements from the ownership change. The proposed machine offer should establish those details independently of the acquisition headline.
Where a larger cutting envelope matters
The Cutlite Penta PLUS EVO is a CNC fiber laser cutting family for flat carbon-steel and stainless-steel sheet and plate. Its family headline working area reaches 16,500 × 3,500 mm. That makes long one-piece components and oversized profiled blanks logical applications to evaluate when they exceed an existing machine’s usable cutting envelope.
The strongest reason to investigate that capacity is recurring oversized work, not simply a preference for a larger machine. Compare the longest and widest components with purchased stock dimensions and the proposed cutting area. A requirement to keep the component in one piece can make the working envelope decisive. For occasional oversized jobs, compare dedicated capacity with outsourcing before committing to a larger installation.
Bed size and laser power are separate choices
The PLUS EVO family reaches 60 kW laser power. Maximum working area and maximum power are separate family specifications, not a guarantee that every configuration combines both. The quoted machine needs to establish the available bed, source, head, and handling combination.
A long component does not, by itself, justify the highest kilowatt rating. Use representative material grades, thicknesses, contours, and edge requirements to evaluate the proposed power level. For high-mix work, include both long profiles and demanding small features in the cutting demonstration, then assess the results against subsequent fabrication requirements.
The PLUS EVO uses a linear-motor gantry and an EVO 3 autofocus cutting head with a noncontact capacitive sensor. These are concrete features to examine during application trials, rather than reasons to assume a universal thickness capability or comparative cycle-time advantage.
Loading determines usable large-format capacity
The cutting surface uses a replaceable support grid, with sectional scrap collection and suction openings below it. Include access for grid maintenance and scrap removal in the installation discussion, alongside the space occupied by the cutting enclosure and external pallet.
The Cutlite automation portfolio includes inline and 90-degree loading arrangements, automated storage, vacuum sheet loading, and fork-based handling of cut material. These options provide a basis for evaluating cutting and material movement together; they do not establish compatibility with every large-format configuration.
A useful loading proposal must accommodate the actual sheet dimensions and weights, available floor space, and access for stock and cut blanks. Evaluate the recurring oversized workload and representative cutting results together: the acquisition creates a portfolio development, not evidence of a particular throughput gain or investment return.
Discuss your large-format cutting application
I’m Louie Aviles with Mac-Tech’s fabrication-equipment sales team, serving Illinois. I can help you separate working-envelope needs from power and process requirements and compare practical equipment approaches for your job mix. Call me with drawings or DXFs of your longest recurring components, material grades and thicknesses, required edge conditions, and oversized-job volume. Bring sheet dimensions and weights, available space, and any machine proposal so we can assess the cutting application and loading needs—not just the kilowatt rating.
