SSQ II Discontinuation: SSQ3 vs. SSQ II

For a new buyer who needs a multi-profile portable roof-panel rollformer after September 30, 2026, the SSQ3 MultiPro is the practical starting point; the SSQ II remains worth considering only when a documented pre-cutoff order, required tooling, delivery date, and commercial terms fit the operation.

The SSQ II MultiPro is scheduled for discontinuation on September 30, 2026, and SSQ II orders will not be accepted for delivery in 2027. The SSQ3 is the current platform to evaluate for new work. It keeps the same 16-profile capability while adding QWIKSwap tooling, updated machine-status features, optional UNIQ controls, and gas-or-electric power flexibility.

What changes on September 30, 2026

The deadline creates a real lifecycle decision, but it does not answer the support question by itself. An SSQ II buyer needs written confirmation of order acceptance, production slot, delivery date, warranty terms, parts availability, and post-discontinuation service commitments. The discontinuation notices establish the order cutoff; they do not establish that parts, warranty, or technical support end on September 30.

The SSQ3 is not a different forming category. Both machines are associated with the same 16-profile platform, and both are intended for portable roof and wall panel production. The meaningful differences are the changeover system, current machine configuration, controls, safety and inspection features, power choices, and the commercial timing of the purchase.

Where the SSQ3 fits the work

The SSQ3 is a portable post-cut rollformer. Coil stock feeds through sequential roller stations that progressively form the selected panel profile, and a hydraulic shear cuts the formed panel after rollforming. The documented profile family includes standing-seam, flush wall, soffit, underdeck, board-and-batten, snap-lock, mechanical-seam, and trapezoid applications.

That combination fits roofing contractors, panel producers, and architectural-sheet-metal teams that need to produce varied roof and wall panels in a plant, on a trailer, or near a jobsite. Portable production can reduce dependence on shipping finished long panels when the site has suitable access, coil handling, run-out space, power, and finished-panel handling. The trailer is sold separately, so portability still requires a towing and site-setup plan.

The machine is most compelling when profile variety matters. A team producing several standing-seam profiles, selected wall or soffit panels, and board-and-batten work can use one machine footprint instead of dedicating a separate rollformer to every profile. A team running one profile continuously at high volume may have a stronger case for dedicated equipment.

Changeover is the main operating discriminator

The SSQ3 lists a 25-minute QWIKSwap tooling changeover, while the SSQ II page lists a 45-minute changeover. Those figures are machine specifications, not guaranteed production results. Actual time also includes tooling storage, operator preparation, shear-die alignment, material verification, test panels, and any adjustment required before releasing production.

Multi-profile rollforming trades some uninterrupted throughput for flexibility. A dedicated single-profile machine generally avoids profile-change pauses and can be the better fit for large volumes concentrated in one profile. A multi-profile machine becomes more attractive when the operation runs shorter batches, serves varied projects, has limited floor space, or expects its profile mix to expand.

The SSQ3’s listed maximum speed is 75 feet per minute with the gas-engine configuration. The published specifications list lower speeds for some electric configurations, including 72 feet per minute for one three-phase option and 50 feet per minute for one single-phase option. Buyers should evaluate those figures alongside coil changes, cut lengths, profile changes, operator pacing, and panel handling rather than treating 75 feet per minute as a complete line-rate prediction.

Build the quote around the actual profile package

The number 16 does not mean every profile tool or accessory is included in the base machine. The quote should identify the exact profile tooling, rib rollers, notching, slitting, reel stands, run-out tables, covers, trailer, and other options required for the intended work. Profile-specific tools and finish tooling can change both the purchase price and the way operators stage a run.

Material compatibility also needs a profile-specific review. The SSQ3 documentation lists painted steel from 28 to 22 gauge, painted aluminum from .027 to .040 inch, copper from 16 to 20 ounces, and 26-gauge terne-coated stainless. The same documentation adds material and process limitations, including a 50 ksi maximum for certain steel gauges and warnings that notching is not recommended with copper or terne-coated stainless. The application review should therefore use the actual coil materials, gauges, widths, yield-strength requirements, and finished panel dimensions.

The published coil envelope includes 15- to 30-inch coil widths, 12- to 24-inch finished panel widths, and maximum coil diameters of 32 inches on the rack or 45 inches on the decoiler. Those figures should be checked against the coils the operation actually buys, not assumed from a general machine-family description.

Controls, power, and maintenance change the ownership picture

The SSQ3 can use a 16 HP gas engine or 5 HP and 7.5 HP electric motors, and the Quick-Change Power-Pack is designed to switch between gas and electric power in the field. That flexibility can support both plant and jobsite production, but it makes power availability, fuel planning, electrical connections, towing, coil loading, and run-out space part of the machine decision.

The optional UNIQ Automatic Control System adds a 7-inch touchscreen, USB cut-list transfer, troubleshooting help, and the ability to import up to 600 unique length and notching combinations. It is most useful when the operation handles changing cut lists, programmed notching, or a wider range of repeatable jobs. A team that mainly runs short, simple batches may not need every control option.

RFID cover sensors, inspection windows, a shear warning strobe, interior LEDs, and on-controller diagnostics improve visibility around operation and inspection. They do not replace guarding, lockout procedures, operator training, lubrication, hydraulic maintenance, shear care, or organized tooling storage. Faster stated changeover becomes a production advantage only when the crew can repeat the setup consistently.

When the SSQ II still makes sense

An SSQ II can still fit when a specific available configuration matches the immediate profile list, the order can be accepted before September 30, 2026, the delivery date supports the production plan, and the quote documents the warranty, parts, service, and tooling terms. The outgoing model should be evaluated as a defined machine package, not as an assumed bargain created by the discontinuation.

The SSQ3 is the stronger default for a new buyer that expects profile variety, wants the current multi-profile platform, or needs the shorter stated tooling-changeover time. The SSQ II deserves comparison when its documented availability and configuration solve a near-term requirement without creating a support or delivery gap.
