HSG ALG Wear-Item and Inspection Records: What to Document Before Requesting Parts or Service

When an HSG ALG automation system has a loading, unloading, handling, or alarm-related concern, the first service decision is not which wear item to replace. It is whether the record identifies the installed system, shows the observed condition, and gives the next parts or service conversation enough context to begin without guessing.

HSG presents ALG as an automatic loading and unloading system. Treat it as its own piece of automation in the maintenance record. The connected laser is important context, but the laser model alone does not identify the ALG configuration or establish replacement-part compatibility.

Start with exact equipment identity

Configuration variation is one reason to begin with identification rather than a generic wear-item checklist. HSG currently lists the ALG3015-400 for a 3000 mm × 1500 mm available format, 1–12 mm loading thickness, and 400 kg maximum loading weight. The ALG4020-800 is listed for a 4000 mm × 2000 mm available format, 1–12 mm loading thickness, and 800 kg maximum loading weight.

Those values provide equipment context; they do not identify a part or confirm that a replacement will fit. For every inspection, parts request, or service inquiry, record:

  • Exact ALG model, serial number, internal asset number, and clear photos of identification labels.
  • Available control or HMI identification, including displayed software or control information when available.
  • Connected laser make, model, and serial number.
  • Known modifications, previous repairs, or automation-related additions that could affect the request.
  • The date the record was created and the person who observed the condition.

If a label is damaged or missing, submit clear photos of the system, the control display, and the affected location. Do not assign a model from appearance alone.

Record the event in operating sequence

HSG lists automatic sheet-layer thickness measurement for ALG. That makes the point in the operating sequence useful evidence. Record where the event occurred: before pickup, during sheet-layer measurement, during transfer, at the handoff to the connected laser, during unloading, or after the cycle completed.

Also capture the production conditions at the time:

  • Sheet length, width, nominal thickness, material, and the observed condition of the sheet supply.
  • Date, time, shift, job status, and whether production is stopped, restricted, or continuing.
  • Whether the event repeated, and how often it was observed.
  • What the operator saw, heard, or received on the control, along with actions taken before and after the event.

Write the observation before proposing a cause. A useful record identifies the location, the point in the cycle, the exact alarm text, and the visible condition. It does not turn a symptom into a confirmed failed component.

Make condition evidence usable

For a possible wear item or damaged component, capture both a wide photo that locates the area and a close photo that shows the condition. Include any readable marking, part number, label, or identifier. Note what is visible: wear, damage, deformation, contamination, looseness, or another observable change. If no condition is visible, say that plainly and preserve the alarm or cycle evidence instead.

Full alarm or fault text is more useful than a paraphrase. Save screenshots with the complete message and timestamp when available. Video can be useful when it shows the sequence leading to an event, but it is not a reason to bypass guards, defeat safeguarding, or enter a hazardous area.

Attach maintenance, parts, and warranty records

Bring the history for the affected area into the request. Include prior inspection records, repair dates, previous parts orders, invoices, known part numbers, technician notes, and available warranty documents. Record the document date or revision when a machine-specific maintenance instruction or completed preventive-maintenance item is relevant.

Do not substitute a generic interval for the instruction that applies to the installed system. Likewise, prior part history may help identify what needs confirmation, but it does not prove that the same part is correct now.

Separate a parts request from service scoping

A clear model and serial number, a readable component identifier, condition photos, and prior order information may be enough to begin a model-specific parts inquiry. An unclear affected area, repeating alarm, incomplete identity record, changed operating conditions, or a concern involving the automation and connected laser is a stronger reason to prepare for a broader service-scoping discussion.

That distinction does not establish a diagnosis or urgency. It helps prevent a request from being built around an assumed component when the available record points to missing information.

Prepare safely before inspection or service

OSHA‘s hazardous-energy-control standard applies to covered servicing and maintenance when unexpected energization, startup, or stored-energy release could injure employees. Follow the site’s applicable energy-control procedure and the machine-specific instructions before work that goes beyond normal operation or requires access to a hazardous area. Energy isolation and lockout/tagout decisions belong to the employer’s established procedure and authorized employees.
